Review

Hero and ex-cop Butch is the only human allowed into the Brotherhood's inner circle, but Butch is no mere human, a fact suspected by one of his vamp colleagues, and confirmed by the sinister plans of the Omega. The book is fully committed to its urban sensibility, the vampires' rarified language (a glossary is provided) and their revved-up sex drives, and it all works to great, page-turning effect (with the notable exception of a chick lit–like attention to designer brands). Though Butch's love interest, the virginal, aristocratic vampire Marissa, initially elicits more annoyance than empathy, she grows a spine as the book progresses and Butch's destiny comes to light.
I can say that the only thing that, with the beginning of the fourth book that's really is starting to bother me about these are some of the words the brothers use due to listening to rap music. It won't prevent me from reading the books, however it's the one thing I can say that is grating at times.
I wasn't looking forward to reading this story as much as the others. It was a good read in the end with the continuing story of the brotherhood and their slayers. Butch did need a story and it came at a perfect time. Being that he wasn't a brother we needed to learn what his part in the war and their lives would be. Needless to say this book did just that.
As said in previous reviews for the series, keep reading.
