!!! spoiler alert !!! Review

Deep in Shaman’s Forest, the vampire Valkyrie awakens to find her dhampir son, Anthony, ill with a fever. The sorceress says Anthony must have his father’s blood before the next full moon or else he will die. Valkyrie journeys with Anthony into the city to find a man she has not seen in 15 years. But will Anthony’s fascination with human life and Valkyrie’s need to feed on living blood tear them apart before Anthony’s father can be found?
The idea of the story sounded interesting. A vampire so far removed from human life who then is forced into it to help aid her ill son. The execution of the story failed for me on many levels. This vampire was so victimized that it made her being a vampire hard to remember. When you read about vampires they are always so strong and worldly that I was excited to read a new take on how things work out for a vampire that doesn't know really much about the human world. Sadly, to say the least, it didn't work out at all.
It was hard to even finish this story. What little parts that weren't painful to read felt rushed and left many questions looming throughout. At times (which were VERY far and few between) the only bright light was her son, Anthony but in the end even his character didn't seem to really work. He felt HUGELY stunted in his growth for the age he was. I couldn't relate to Valkyrie at all. And Bill was so poorly executed that I almost just totally skipped over his parts completely. I mean, what grown man has fish, a turtle, hamster and a dog?? I just couldn't relate to any of the characters who often felt robotic in their dialogue.
Trying to create a paranormal romance story isn't an easy task and I'm sorry to say that this book failed from start to finish. The idea was something which sounded so interesting, but just didn't work. I give the author props for trying and for getting this story published.
